    On October 14, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) reported that the PLA Eastern Theater Command announced it would be conducting military exercises in Taiwan’s peripheral airspace and waters. The MND condemns this unreasonable provocation. In response, the MND deployed troops in accordance with the Regulations of Emergency Responses by the Armed Forces during Regular Combat Preparation, demonstrating its resolve to defend freedom, democracy, and national sovereignty through direct action.

    The MND has stated that President Lai’s speech highlighted the current state of cross-strait relations and his determination to maintain stability and peace across the Taiwan Strait, as well as to ensure the well-being of the people. In addition, in a goodwill speech, President Lai declared that Taiwan is willing to work with China on addressing climate change, combatting infectious diseases, and maintaining regional security in pursuit of peace and mutual prosperity. However, China’s acts of provocation have completely undermined such efforts.

    The MND has stressed that China’s unreasonable provocations have disrupted peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait while curtailing Taiwan’s international space through threats and intimidation. The ROC military stands ready against any enemy threats. Standing steadfastly by its principle of “preparing for war without seeking it, responding to war without avoiding it”, the ROC military will continue to strengthen its deterrence and reinforce patriotism among the ranks. By establishing a formidable military power and defense resilience, the ROC military is confident in its capability and determination to defend the nation.
